# Polestar > Polestar is a free, open-source (GPL-3.0) leveling guide addon for World of Warcraft: Forever. It ships 222 built-in guides (leveling routes from 1 to 60 for every race on both factions, class quests, professions, reputations, exploration, mounts and pets) with a 3D waypoint arrow that walks real paths to the next goal. Players also publish their own guides for it as community guides on polestar.guide. How to use this file: the facts below come from the docs and the guide data this site is built from. Every page has a Markdown copy at its address with `.md` added, linked below; /llms-full.txt holds every player and author docs page in one file. When citing, link the page without `.md` (that is the page people read). Key facts: - Game: made for World of Warcraft: Forever. Polestar is a community project, not affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment. - Cost and license: free and open source under GPL-3.0; every guide comes with the addon. Source: https://github.com/fitzforge/polestar - Current release: Polestar 0.2.6, released October 19, 2026 (beta). What changed: https://polestar.guide/docs/reference/changelog.md - Get it: the CurseForge app (search for "Polestar Guides"; https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/polestar), or `Polestar-.zip` from the newest GitHub release under Assets (https://github.com/fitzforge/polestar/releases), or the Polestar Client (https://polestar.guide/client), a free desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux (version 0.1.0, beta) that installs and updates Polestar and community guides. The client is optional. - Install in 3 steps: 1. Install with the CurseForge app, or unzip the release into the game's AddOns folder so the Polestar folders sit directly inside it (`World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/Interface/AddOns/` on the beta client, `_forever_` instead of `_classic_beta_` from launch). 2. Restart the game completely: a `/reload` does not load a new addon. 3. Log in: the guide window opens with a guide for your race, level and zone; follow the arrow and the goals tick themselves off. - In-game commands: `/polestar` shows or hides the guide window (`/pole` works too); `/polestar guides` opens the hub (every guide, Lookup, Dungeons, Rares); `/polestar options` every setting; `/polestar skip` skips a step for good, while `/polestar next` and `/polestar prev` only look ahead or back; `/polestar talents` your talent plan; `/polestar path` choose where to level next; `/polestar report` report a problem with the step on screen; `/polestar help` lists all 36: https://polestar.guide/docs/reference/commands.md - Guides: 222 built in, on shelves Leveling (57), Class quests (66), Professions (12), Reputation (17), Exploration (7), Mounts (27), Companion pets (33), Legacy and more (3). Leveling starts: Human (Alliance): Elwynn Forest; Dwarf (Alliance): Dun Morogh; Gnome (Alliance): Dun Morogh; Night Elf (Alliance): Teldrassil; Skyborne (Alliance): Zephras Isle; Orc (Horde): Durotar; Troll (Horde): Durotar; Tauren (Horde): Mulgore; Undead (Horde): Tirisfal Glades; Skyborne (Horde): Zephras Isle. Each faction's whole road: https://polestar.guide/guides/alliance.md and https://polestar.guide/guides/horde.md. - Quick fixes: nothing shows in game: restart the game completely and check the Polestar folders sit directly in `Interface/AddOns`. No quest markers on the map: they are off until turned on under Map in the options. Wrong step in a Polestar guide: click the bug in the guide window (beside Skip), copy the report and paste it on the Polestar Discord, or open a GitHub issue. A problem in a community guide goes to its author. - Community guides: guides written by other players and published as their own addons; install one beside Polestar and its guides show in the guide menu under Community guides. Polestar does not test or vouch for them. Browse and download them at https://polestar.guide/community; the Polestar Client installs them in one click; a small one can be shared as an import string. - Writing guides: a guide is a plain-text `.guide` file; a community guide is a folder with `pack.json` and its `.guide` files, checked with Polestar's own tools (`polestar new`, `polestar lint`, `polestar playtest`) and published on polestar.guide, which builds the addon. Start at https://polestar.guide/docs/authors.md. - Languages: the interface and guides read in 10 languages. - Help: the Polestar Discord (https://discord.gg/polestar) and GitHub issues (https://github.com/fitzforge/polestar/issues). ## Docs for players - [Start here](https://polestar.guide/docs/players.md): Polestar is for World of Warcraft: Forever.
