Polestar Client is a small desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux. It installs
Polestar's addons and community guides and keeps them up to date. The current
version is `0.1.0`, a beta: [download it](https://polestar.guide/docs/players/client#downloads) below, or see the
overview, with screenshots, at [Polestar Client](https://polestar.guide/client).

> **Note:**
> **You don't need it.** Polestar works without the client. Install it from the
> CurseForge app or a release zip, and download community guides as a zip, as
> [Install and first run](https://polestar.guide/docs/players/quick-start) and
> [Community guides](https://polestar.guide/docs/players/community-guides) describe.

## What it does

- **Keeps Polestar up to date.** It installs and updates Polestar, Polestar
Recorder and LibForeverData from their GitHub releases. Every download is
checked against its published checksum, and your other addons are never
  touched.
- **Community guides in one click.** On a community guide's page on
polestar.guide, choose **Download guide**, then **Install with Polestar
Client**. The client opens with a confirm sheet; there is no account. Its
Community Guides page installs, updates and removes them.
- **Automatic guide updates, if you want them.** They are off by default and
take routine updates only, a day after release. A new publisher or new
  folders always asks first.
- **Careful with your AddOns folder.** Every guide list is signature-checked,
and only guide files go into AddOns. If polestar.guide pulls a guide, the
client turns it off or removes it and shows you why.
- **Recording, opt-in.** Choose **Start sharing** in the client and it uploads
what the Polestar Recorder addon logs (quests, kills, NPC positions) to help
build better routes. Character names are stripped and chat is never sent. The
**What we send** page shows all of it. Recording starts with the next
  Polestar update.
- **Looks after itself.** It updates itself with signed updates, and lives in
the tray with a small window. No account, no login.

It works with World of Warcraft: Forever only.
